7th Class student drowned to death in Senabati Ramban

Banihal, Mar 20: A seventh class students drowned to death in a Nallah in Chewli area of Senabati in sub-division Ramsoo of Ramban district on Tuesday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Basharat Ahmed Bhat (13), son of Muhammad Sharief Bhat resident of Chewli, Gujrara, and was a student of Middle School Gujrara. The minor's death left the native area, school staff and children in a deep shock and mourning.

Headmaster Middle School Gujrara Farooq Ahmad Lone told Greater Kashmir that Basharat appeared in the annual examination on Tuesday and at around 5 PM he slipped and fell into the Senabati Nallah.

Soon after the incident a rescue operation was launched by locals but till then the student was washed away in the water of Senabati stream, he said.

However, the body of Basharat was recovered from the stream after half-an-hour search.

"The entire area and the staff of Middle School Gujrara are saddened by the tragic death of Basharat Ahmed. The school administration stands with the bereaved family at this juncture," Headmaster added.
