Srinagar, Sep 28: In its continued crackdown on illegal mining activities, Jammu and Kashmir Police in Handwara has intensified its efforts to curb unlawful excavation and transportation of minerals in the police district.

During the drive, police teams from Police Post Langate, Police Post Chogul and Police Post Magam under the supervision of senior officers, seized 06 tractors and 01 JCB found involved in illegal excavation and transportation of minerals.

Accordingly, proceedings under the relevant provisions of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act (MMDR Act) have been initiated, and further investigation is underway.
Police reiterated its commitment to act tough against those indulging in illegal mining, which not only causes environmental degradation but also affects public resources.

Police urged community members to extend their cooperation and share information about any illegal mining or related activities with the police, and added the identity of informants will be kept confidential.
