Jammu, May 9: Jammu, May 9: For the second consecutive night, Pakistan Friday made multiple failed attempts to hit civilian and military targets in Jammu, Samba, Nagrota, Pathankot and various other areas.

Drones were sighted in Jammu, Samba, Nagrota and Pathankot. They were engaged and effectively neutralized using counter-drone systems. These locations were among 26 locations, ranging from the Baramulla in the North to Bhuj in the South, along both the International Border and the Line of Control with Pakistan, where drones were sighted,î defence sources stated.

Situation was evolving as the threat of further such attempts persisted.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who was in Jammu, was among the firsts to caution about sirens, sounds of intermittent explosions, followed by blackout in Jammu through a string of posts on X.

Meanwhile, the Border Security Force (BSF) foiled a major infiltration bid by neutralizing at least seven terrorists in Samba sector of Jammu Frontier during the intervening night of May 8 and 9.

ìIn Samba sector of Jammu Frontier, alert BSF troops, during the intervening night of May 8 and 9, 2025, an infiltration attempt by a big group of terrorists was made. It was detected by the surveillance grid,î BSF sources said.

They stated that the infiltration bid was supported by fire from Pak Rangers post Dhandhar.

ìAlert troops of BSF, neutralised the infiltration bid, killing at least 7 terrorists and causing extensive damage to the Pak Post Dhandhar,î sources said.

Pakistan also made renewed attempts to hit multiple targets through a string of drone attacks in Jammu city, Samba and Pathankot besides other areas on Friday for the second consecutive evening.

Sounds of sirens followed by blackout amid multiple explosions created panic in Jammu at around 8.15 pm. Intermittent blasts could be heard for fifteen minutes or so.

After a brief lull, booming sounds rent the air at around 9.03 pm. They lasted for a few minutes and then again after a brief interval at 9.33 pm, sounds of explosions could be heard across Jammu. At around 9.45 pm, power supply was restored briefly for 2 minutes.

At 10.42 pm, power supply was finally restored.

CM Omar, while offering comforting words to panicked people, asked them to stay safe and also cautioned against rumour mongering.

Blackout in Jammu now. Sirens can be heard across the city. Intermittent sounds of blasts, probably heavy artillery, can now be heard from where I am,î the Chief Minister posted.

ìIt is my earnest appeal to everyone in and around Jammu please stay off the streets, stay at home or at the nearest place you can comfortably stay at for the next few hours. Ignore rumours. Donít spread unsubstantiated or unverified stories and we will get through this together,î he added.

On Thursday evening also, Pakistan Army had made a failed attempt to attack multiple targets at Satwari, R S Pura, Arnia in Jammu district and in Samba district.

It had also made futile attempts to target military stations at Jammu, Pathankot and Udhampur.

Later, midnight blast sounds created panic amid blackout. Defence sources pointed towards activities of loitering munitions between 3.30 am to 4.45 am.

Defence sources stated that Pakistan Army violated ceasefire across LoC opposite Nowshera, Rajouri, Poonch, Akhnoor during the intervening night of May 8 and 9. It continued on Friday evening also.

They, however, while referring to PIB Fact Check, described the Pak claim to destroy Jammu airbase as fake and laughable.

Meanwhile, DIG Jammu-Samba-Kathua, Shiv Kumar Sharma along with SP City North Vivek Shekhar; SDPO CITY Jammu; SHO Police Station City and other officers conducted security check of old city Jammu i.e., Panjtirthi; Hari Market; Raghunath Bazar; Mubarak Mandi; Pacca Danga; Lakhdata Bazar; Kachchi Chawni; Kanak Mandi etc and advised people to cooperate with Police and civil administration and follow the advisory issued by them.

In a related development, the Chamber of Traders Federation, Jammu has decided that until the current war-like situation stabilizes, all markets should close by 6 pm.

This measure is suggested purely in the interest of public safety and to ensure that our traders and citizens are not caught unprepared during any sudden developments,î CTF, Jammu said.
