7 houses gutted in 2 fire incidents

Fire and Emergency Services department said that both fire incidents occurred in the morning at Rajbagh and Hawal areas of Srinagar.

Srinagar, July 22: At least seven houses were gutted in two separate fire incidents here on Monday.

Officials from the Fire and Emergency Services department said that both fire incidents occurred in the morning at Rajbagh and Hawal areas of Srinagar.

In one incident, at least five houses were gutted at Hawal. The officials said that they received the information about the incident at 11:35 a.m. They said that they pressed at least 18 fire tenders from different fire stations to douse off the flames. The fire was kept under control, however, one of their firemen received injuries during the operation.

In another incident at Rajbagh area, two houses were gutted. The officials said that they received information about the incident at about 10:15 a.m. and soon rushed their F&ES units to douse off the flames. The officials said that a two-storey house was severely gutted, while a three-storey house adjacent to it was also partially damaged.

“Both the incidents were caused by an electric short circuit which sparked the fire and that spread soon. We pressed fired tenders from Babademb, Hawal, Rainawari, Safakadal , Hazratbal, Nowshera, and other fire stations to douse off the flames and control the fire from spreading at both places. One of our firemen also received injuries during the operation,” said an official from Fire and Emergency Services.
