Srinagar, Oct 6: The under-19 Boys Football Tournament organised by the Youth Services and Sports Department on Monday commenced with great enthusiasm and sportsmanship.

The tournament, as per a statement, is being played as part of the 69th National School Games, and Green Valley Educational Institute (GVEI) Elahi Bagh, Srinagar, is one of the venues for this national event.

The opening match witnessed a thrilling display of skill and teamwork as Manipur outclassed IBSO with a dominant 9–1 victory. Borish Singh (Jersey No. 9) was adjudged Man of the Match for his outstanding performance.

In the second fixture, CISCE triumphed over CBSE with a clean 4–0 win, with Shayan Dali earning the Man of the Match title for his impactful play and consistent efforts on the field.

Chairman GVEI Mohammad Yousuf Wani congratulated the participating teams and emphasised the commitment of the school to promoting sports and holistic education.

He expressed pride in hosting young talent from across the country, noting that such events foster discipline, teamwork, and national integration through the spirit of sportsmanship.

"The tournament is a means to celebrate youthful energy, unity, and the shared love for football that connects players from diverse regions of India," Wani said.

Notably, the Directorate of YSS is hosting the nationals in four major games viz Football, Wushu, Taekwondo and Table Tennis under the aegis of the School Games Federation of India. Over 4000 young athletes from across India are participating in these prestigious events.

Director General Youth Services & Sports Anuradha Gupta, has already detailed the comprehensive arrangements for the smooth execution of the national event, which will see participation from 30 teams across India.
