6 Killed as storm uproots tree in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh
New Delhi, Mar 30: A powerful storm in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district led to the uprooting of a tree near Manikaran Gurdwara, resulting in the deaths of at least six people. The fallen tree crushed vehicles and food stalls, triggering a rescue operation in the area. Videos from the scene depicted cars severely damaged by the impact, with branches covering them.
The storm, which also caused a landslide, left the region in chaos as emergency responders worked to clear the debris and assist those affected.
Manikaran, a sacred religious place for Sikh pilgrims is situated at an altitude of 1,829 meters and approximately 40 kilometres from Kullu. It is also a popular tourist destination known for its tourism as well as religious significance. The storm struck amid a weather alert issued by the Meteorological Department earlier in the week. The department had warned of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph across several districts, including Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, and Mandi. Immediate rescue operations were launched as local authorities are assessing the damage and providing aid to those affected by the disaster.
