Rajouri/Banihal, July 21: Six persons, including two women, were killed and ten others, including four minors, were injured in three separate accidents in Rajouri, Reasi and Kishtwar districts of Jammu region on Sunday.

Three persons died in an accident in Rajouri while in the Reasi accident, three members of family lost lives. In the evening, four persons were injured, one of them critically, in another road accident in Kishtwar district.

In the first accident of the day, the driver, was among three persons who lost their lives while five others were injured when the vehicle they were travelling in turned turtle at Challan on Veerabhadreshwara-Lam road near Line of Control in Nowshera sub division of Rajouri district this morning.

“The accident took place when an Ecco vehicle, bearing registration number JK11G 7794, on its way towards Lam from Thandikassi, fell in roadside fields, causing injuries to eight persons, including driver,” the officials said.

The injured were immediately shifted to Sub District Hospital Nowshera, where two of them were declared ‘brought dead.’ They were identified as Mohammad Din, 65, son of Fakeer Mohammad, resident of Baghla and vehicle driver Arun Kumar, 32, son of Hem Raj, resident of Lam.

Other six injured were later shifted to GMC Associated Hospital Rajouri, where one of them Mohammad Aslam, 40, son of Mohammad Din, resident of Baghla, also succumbed to his injuries, thus taking the death toll in the accident to three.

Five injured persons, presently undergoing treatment at GMC Associated Hospital Rajouri, included Atif Aslam, 10, son of Mohd Aslam; Zareena, 36, wife of Mohammad Akram; Asiya Sadeeq, 5, daughter of Mohammad Aslam; Raza, 5, son of Mohammad Aslam and Shahida, 40, wife of Mohammad Aslam, all residents of Baghla village of Rajouri.

Police said to have taken up legal proceedings into the matter.

Naib Tehsildar Rajouri, Sham Lal said that three people lost their lives in the accident while five were under treatment. Out of them, the condition of two was critical, he said.

In the second accident of the day, three members of a family were killed while a minor child survived after a vehicle, in which they travelling, skidded off the road and fell into several hundred-feet-deep gorge near the Bidda Morh area of Damtop-Bidda road of the Reasi district on Sunday afternoon.

Police said, “A Mahindra camper, bearing registration number JK20- 6673, on its way to Reasi, skidded off the road and fell into a several-hundred-deep gorge near Bidda Morh on Damtop Bidda road.”

They said that three persons of a family, including two women, died on the spot whereas a three-year-old girl survived this accident.

She was rushed to the District Hospital Reasi by the locals who reached the spot first.

They said on getting information locals, Police, SDRF, and CRPF from a nearby camp rushed to the spot. They retrieved three dead bodies from the gorge and shifted them to District Hospital Reasi.

“A three-year-old girl was shifted to District Hospital Reasi where after providing medical aid she was referred to Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu for specialized treatment,” police said.

Police identified the deceased driver as Mukesh Singh, 40, son of Suneet Singh; Sunita Devi (Gudi), 55, wife of Suneet Singh and Tosha Devi (Shobha), 34, daughter of Suneet Singh, all residents of Sai, Lanjan of Tehsil Thakrakote in district Reasi.

“Deceased Tosha Devi (Shobha), wife of Devinder Singh, resident of Chowki Choura, Jammu visited a few days back to her parents’ house. She was the mother of the injured girl,” police said.

In a separate accident, at least four persons sustained injuries after a car rolled down into a gorge in Mughal Maidan, area of Chatroo in Kishtwar Sunday evening.

Police said, “An Alto car, bearing registration number JK17A-2283, on its way to Kishtwar rolled down into a gorge in Mughal Maidan area of Chatroo resulting in injuries to four persons, travelling in the car.”

On getting information, the police and local volunteers rushed to the spot and removed all the four injured to District Hospital Kishtwar for treatment.

Police identified the injured as Amir Ayoub Zargar, Mutaib Ahmed, Sahil Ahmed and Usman Ahmed, all residents of Kishtwar.

Hospital authorities at District Hospital Kishtwar said that one injured person was referred to Associated Government Medical College and Hospital Doda for specialised treatment.

They further informed that other three persons were responding to the treatment and were out of danger.
