Jammu, Jan 26: Seven media persons, six Village Defence Guards (VDGs) and three JKAS officers were among 53 individuals who were honoured by the J&K Government with State awards for 2025 on the 76th Republic Day for their outstanding contribution.

Awards, carrying a cash prize of Rs 51,000 and a citation, were announced by the J&K government on the eve of Republic Day.

Retired Deputy Director, Department of School Education, Ishwar Das Soni was conferred an award for lifetime achievement while Greater Kashmir Executive Editor and prolific writer, Arif Shafi Wani was honoured with the “Award for Outstanding Environmentalist.”

Three JKAS officers viz., Shabnam Kamili, Kishore Singh Chib, Harish Ahmad Handoo besides Principal GMC Srinagar and Dean, Dr Iffat Hassan Shah; Vice Chancellor, Islamic University of Science and Technology, Prof Shakil Ahmad Romshoo and Assistant Director Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP), Dr Anjum Andrabi received award for meritorious public service.

Pooja Shali (India Today), Hafiz Ayaz Gani (Rising Kashmir), Binoo Joshi (JK News Today), Asha Sarmal (Gulistan News), Yehya Sultan (News – 18), Rahil Gupta (Cross Town) and Komal Singh Manhas (Bureau Chief, News-18) were conferred with the award in the category of “Outstanding Media Persons.” As per an order issued by the General Administration Department, a group of six VDGs of Assar in Doda district were awarded for bravery, seven writers and translators selected for individual awards in the field of literature and nine individuals in performing art.

Four others were conferred an award for excellence in arts and crafts, six each for social reforms and empowerment and outstanding sports persons. This year, the government has conferred the award in the category of bravery to Village Defence Guards (VDGs) of Assar, Doda namely Chahal Singh, Mohinder Singh, Ravi Kumar, Bittu Ram, Sanghar Singh and Pawan Kumar. In the field of Literature, the Jammu and Kashmir Government Award, 2025 have been conferred on Raj Kumar Sharma (Raj Rahi); Prakash Chander Sharma (Prakash Premi) (Dogri Writer); Manshoor Banihali (Abdul Gani Giri) (Writer/Translator); Dr Farooq Fayaz (Writer/Translator); Kulbushan Mahotra (Hindi writer); Surinder Kour (Neer) (Writer/Translator) and Gulab-ud-Din Tahir (Playwright and Contributor).

Mushtaaque Ali Ahmad Khan (Theatre); Dr Shazia Hamid (Music); Kaiser Nizami (Singer/Composer); Gulzar Ahmad Bhat (Kashmiri Folk-Bhand Pather); Mukesh Reshi (Actor); Sonali Dogra (Singer); Zameer Ashai (TV, Radio and Film Actor); Mayank Raina (Singer) and Samridhi Sen (Singer) have been conferred with award for Performing Arts.

Mukhtar Ahmad Bhat, Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, Anil Paba (Writer/Social activist/Archaeologist) and Suresh Kumar Abrol, Director, Manuscripts Conservation Centre, Jammu, have been conferred with award for Excellence in Arts & Crafts.

Award for Social Reforms and Empowerment has been conferred on Itinderpal Singh Bali; Save Youth Save Future (Wajahat Farooq Bhat, chairman NGO, SUSF Foundation); Preeti Choudhary (Social Worker); Ram Sevak Sharma; Principal (Social Activist); Dr Abdul Majid Ganai, HoD Psychiatry, SKIMS Medical College and Hospital Bemina and Mohammad Asad Nomani.

Tarun Gandotra (Roller Skating-Speed Skating/Inline Hockey); Rudhrakash Khanna (Gymnastics); Riya Bakshi (Fencing); Abdul Samad (Cricket); Ulfat Banu (Football) and Jasiya Akhter (Cricket) have been conferred with the “Award for Outstanding Sports Persons.”
