5 structures gutted at Noorbagh

Srinagar, Sep 13: At least five structures including a residential house were gutted in a fire incident in Pomposh Colony, Noorbagh area on city outskirts.

According to officials, fire broke out on Saturday evening in one of the structures and quickly spread to the adjacent structures.

An official from Fire and Emergency Services said that they received information about the incident at around 5:00 pm and immediately rushed multiple fire units to douse the flames. He said fire tenders from Safakadal, Headquarters and Mungund SH Pora were pressed into service to bring the blaze under control.

“At least four structures, including four sheds and one residential house, were gutted in the incident. The fire has now been brought under control, and the cause of the fire is being investigated,” the official said.

Locals in downtown have been saying that fire and emergency operations in the congested locality remain difficult, leaving residents vulnerable to such incidents.

“The locals also joined hands with the Fire and Emergency Department to control the flames. This congested area is always prone to fire incidents, and there needs to be a proper plan to mitigate such risks. Mostly poor people are victims of these tragedies, cramped in small residential structures with multiple families living under one roof,” said a local resident.
