5 shops, ATM damaged in Sopore fire
Sopore, Oct 21: A fire damaged five shops and an ATM in north Kashmir’s Sopore area of Baramulla district late Sunday night, resulting in significant financial losses estimated to be in the lakhs.
Reports indicate that the fire broke out mysteriously late at night in the main chowk area of Sopore, damaging five shops and a bank ATM. However, the cash in the ATM had been withdrawn shortly before the incident.
An official confirmed that, following the outbreak of the fire, timely intervention by local fire tenders, assisted by locals, police, and the army, contained the flames, preventing nearby buildings from being engulfed and potentially saving property worth crores.
“We received a distress call, and our teams immediately rushed to the spot,” said an official from the Sopore fire service department. “The fire was intense, but our joint efforts with the police and locals helped bring it under control,” the official added.
He also noted that no injuries or casualties were reported during this fire incident.
