40 out of 202 sanctioned bunkers completed in Uri constituency: Government

Srinagar, Oct 29: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday informed the Legislative Assembly that out of the 202 bunkers approved for construction in the border constituency of Uri in Baramulla district, only 40 have been completed so far.

In a written reply to a question by MLA Uri, Sajad Shafi, the government said the construction of these bunkers is being carried out under the supervision of the Home Department.

“A total of 202 individual bunkers and overhead protection trenches have been sanctioned for villages in the Uri region,” the reply stated.

The government informed that work on the remaining 162 bunkers is underway and is expected to be completed within the next four weeks.

Responding to a separate query regarding the proposal for additional bunkers in the uncovered border villages of Uri, the government clarified that no such proposal is currently under consideration.

The bunkers, aimed at providing safety to residents living along the Line of Control (LoC), are part of the government’s efforts to strengthen civilian protection measures in vulnerable areas frequently exposed to cross-border shelling.
