Srinagar, Dec 21: In order to raise awareness about good governance and adventure tourism among youth, forty cyclists from across Kashmir Valley this morning paddled to Manasbal from Ganderbal.

The cycling event was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Jatin Kishore from the Clock Tower, Ganderbal, said an official press release.

The event was organized by the Wular–Manasbal Development Authority (WMDA) in collaboration with the District Administration Ganderbal, with technical support from the Jammu and Kashmir Mountain Biking Association (JKMBA) and the Kashmir Mountain Biking Association (KMBA). Addressing the participants, the Deputy Commissioner appreciated the cyclists for their enthusiasm and determination, particularly for participating despite adverse weather conditions and continuous rainfall. He hoped such events would continue in future also at the destination and appreciated WMDA for the initiative. Earlier, Chief Executive Officer, WMDA, Ahsanul Haq Chishti briefed the Deputy Commissioner about rally and contribution of the participants in promoting adventure activities.

During the cycling trail the cyclists paddled through the highways traversing a scenic route to finally reach the picturesque Manasbal.

Later, the participants were felicitated at the concluding event at Manasbal Club by the CEO, WMDA,  Ahsanul Haq Chishti. He reiterated WMDA’s commitment to promoting adventure activities, including water activities at Manasbal Lake. He also lauded the cyclists for their performance under challenging weather conditions.

On the occasion, Rafiq Ahmad was felicitated with an Award of Appreciation for successfully completing the prestigious K2K (Kanyakumari to Kashmir) Ride, covering approximately 4,000 km.

Prominent sports and adventure enthusiasts present on the occasion included Riyaz Wani, President JKMBA; Mushtaq Bhat, President KMBA; Yasir Makdoomi, Secretary, Swim Society; and Syed Tahir, Secretary, Jammu & Kashmir Mountaineering and Adventure Club. Speaking during the ceremony, Riyaz Wani expressed gratitude to the Health Department, Fire & Emergency Services, Police, and SDRF for their support in ensuring the smooth and safe conduct of the event.
