4 of a family dead, 2 injured in Kishtwar accident

Ramban, July 9: Four members of a family died and two sustained injuries after a car in which they were travelling skidded off the road and fell into a gorge in Tandar Horni Nullah ahead of Dachhan on Kishtwar-Dachhan road, around 50 km from Kishtwar district headquarter on Tuesday.

The six family members were travelling in a car when the accident happened.

Of the six, four including a woman, her two daughters and a minor son died.

Her husband and a daughter, who survived the accident, were admitted to District Hospital Kishtwar.

Officials said that a car, JK01K 5426, on its way to Dachhan from Srinagar skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge at Nullah, resulting in the death of three family members on the spot.

They said that on getting information, locals, volunteers, and Police reached the spot and retrieved the three bodies and the three injured from the gorge and shifted them to a nearby hospital.

However, the minor girl, Radia Wani, daughter of Iflal Wani, succumbed to her injuries, taking the toll of the deaths to four.

Police identified the deceased as Fatima Begum, wife of Iflal Wani, Ridia Wani, Madihiya Wani, and Altamsh Wani, all residents of Soundar Dachaan.

The two critically injured were shifted to District Hospital Kishtwar.

The hospital authorities of District Hospital Kishtwar identified the two injured as the head of the family, Iflal Wani and his daughter Khadija Wani.

Union Minister Jitender Singh took to microblogging site X and posted, “I am in constant touch with DC Kishtwar, Devansh Kumar Yadav following a tragic road accident in which a private vehicle rolled down a deep gorge at Dachhan area, leading to loss of four lives and injuries to two.”

He expressed his condolences to the bereaved families.

“All possible help is being provided,” Singh said.
