Ramban, Nov 1: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari Wednesday described the completion of the 1.08 km long four-lane Ramban viaduct as a “remarkable feat.”
Announcing its completion on the social media platform ‘X’ with pictures, the Union Minister said that it would ease traffic congestion and facilitate smooth vehicular flow.
A day ago, ‘Greater Kashmir’ in its edition of November 1 reported the completion of this significant 4-lane flyover in Ramban.
The ‘Greater Kashmir’ report also mentioned that only some work on the pedestrian pathway alongside the flyover was pending and the flyover was all set to be operational in a couple of days.
On ‘X’, while sharing the news about the completion of the flyover today, Gadkari reiterated the resolve of the government to provide J&K with “superlative highway infrastructure” in line with the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He said that it (improved infrastructure) would enhance the appeal of J&K as a “top-tier tourist haven” besides adding to its economic prosperity.
“In Jammu and Kashmir, we have successfully completed the construction of the Ramban Viaduct, a remarkable feat spanning a length of 1.08 kilometers with 4 lanes. The project, built at a cost of ₹328 crore, is situated on the Udhampur-Ramban section of National Highway-44. This extraordinary viaduct is composed of 26 spans and employs a combination of concrete and steel girders in its structural design, “ wrote Gadkari.
“Its completion significatly alleviates traffic congestion in Ramban Bazar, facilitating the smoother flow of vehicles. Embracing the visionary leadership of PM Shri @narendramodi Ji, we stand dedicated to providing Jammu and Kashmir with a superlative highway infrastructure. This monumental achievement not only propels regional economic prosperity but also augments its allure as a top-tier tourist haven, “ Gadkari added.
According to the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and the construction company Gammon India Private Limited, engaged by it (NHAI), this 1.08 km-long Ramban flyover (viaduct), after the completion of the additional two-lane viaduct, was ready for operation.
“Only some work on the pedestrian pathway alongside the flyover is pending and efforts are being made to complete it in a couple of days,” they had said.
The work on two out of four lanes of this flyover was completed and was opened to facilitate vehicle-ferrying pilgrims of the Shri Amarnath Yatra on July 1, 2023. Before its opening, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari had announced its completion in June. Later, after a week, it was opened for normal traffic.
Local traffic was allowed to ply through this newly constructed 2-lane flyover to decongest the old alignment of Srinagar Jammu National Highway passing through Ramban town.
It is being anticipated that the traffic will start plying on this 4-lane flyover after its inauguration in a day or two.
