4 IPS officers transferred, posted

Jammu, Jan 30: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Thursday ordered the transfers and postings of four senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers with immediate effect.

As per an order issued by Principal Secretary J&K Home Department, Chandraker Bharati, on behalf of LG Sinha, these transfers and postings were effected as ADGP Vijay Kumar was relieved from Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday to take up his new assignment at Delhi segment of AGMUT cadre.

“S J M Gillani, IPS, DGP, Police Housing Corporation, will hold the additional charge of the post of Commandant General, Home Guards, Civil Defence and SDRF, J&K, in addition to his own duties, till further orders,” the order read.

Anand Jain, ADGP Jammu Zone, has been transferred and posted as ADGP Armed, J&K.

Bhim Sen Tuti, IGP (POS), PHQ, holding additional charge of IGP (Hqrs) PHQ, IGP (Technical Services), and IGP (Telecom), has been transferred and posted as IGP Jammu zone.

M Suleman Choudhary, IGP Traffic, J&K, shall hold the additional charge of IGP (POS) PHQ, IGP (Hqrs) PHQ, IGP (Technical Services), J&K and IGP (Telecom), in addition to his own duties, till further orders.

Earlier referring to an order by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India F N015041/02/2024-UTS.I dated January 2, 2025, Bharati stated, “In pursuance to order under reference, Vijay Kumar, IPS (AGMUT:1997), ADGP is hereby relieved from Jammu and Kashmir on January 30,2025 (AN), to take up his new assignment at Delhi segment of AGMUT cadre. Consequent to it, these transfers and postings of Police officers are hereby ordered with immediate effect.”

Senior IPS officer and Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Law and Order, J&K, Vijay Kumar was transferred to Delhi segment of AGMUT cadre by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on January 2, 2025.

Kumar, IPS officer of erstwhile J&K cadre (now AGMUT cadre) of 1997 batch, was also holding the additional charge of ADGP, Armed, J&K, CG, HG, CD, SDRF.

Presumed to be an expert hand in anti-terrorism and anti-Maoist operations, ADGP Kumar, hailing from Bihar, has served in key positions in J&K, including challenging and sensitive districts like Pulwama, Kulgam and Anantnag.

The officer, known for his quiet, effective functioning imbuing perfect synergy yet maintaining low profile, in particular, left his indelible mark while serving as IGP and ADGP Kashmir during its critical period.

He served as IGP Kashmir from December 2019 till he took over as ADGP Law and Order in November, 2023.
