4 including child rescued from flooded Ravi river in Kathua
Jammu, Aug 25: Rescue police teams from Kathua and Pathankot, along with NDRF and SDRF personnel, saved four people, including a 2-year-old child, after they were trapped in flash floods in the Ravi River near Lakhanpur, officials said on Monday.
Kathua police stated that on Monday afternoon, information was received through the Police Control Room that a few persons were stuck in the sudden flash flood due to the heavy rainfall in hilly areas, which had resulted in flooding in the Ravi River.
The people who were stuck in the middle of the river were identified as Mohammad Shafi (60), son of Mahwali; Reshma (50), wife of Mohammad Shafi; Parveena (28), daughter of Mohammad Shafi; and a 2-year-old minor child, all residents of the Thein area of Lakhanpur.
As per the officials, a police team led by SSP Kathua Shobhit Saksena, DySP HQrs Kathua Ravinder Singh, and SHO Lakhanpur Insp Tariq Ahmed, along with the NDRF and SDRF teams, Pathankot Police, and civil administration, swung into action and launched a rescue operation and successfully rescued four people from strong water currents from opposite Shahpur Kandi Ravi river.
Meanwhile, the Kathua police administration has further issued a fresh advisory stating that in view of heavy rainfall in Kathua District, the water level in most of the rivers and nallahs was continuously rising and that people were advised to stay away and not to move towards any river/nallah.
