4 drug peddlers arrested in Kulgam, Shopian

Srinagar, Apr 29:  Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police have arrested four drug peddlers in Kulgam and Shopian and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

In Kulgam, a police party of Police Station Qazigund at a checkpoint established at Bonigam, intercepted a suspicious person carrying a bag who on noticing police party tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully. During the search, 3.1 kgs of poppy straw-like contraband substance filled in the bag was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Showkat Ahmad Dar, resident of Bonigam. He has been shifted to PS where he remains in custody.

Moreover, a police party of Police Station Devsar during patrolling at Sopat Maldar link road near ziyarat Sharief, intercepted 2 suspicious persons who on noticing police party tried to flee from the spot but were apprehended tactfully. During the search, officers were able to recover 80 grams of Charas-like contraband substance from their possession. They have been identified as Muneeb Ahmad Ganie and Akash Lateef Ganie, both residents of Nussu Badragund. They have been shifted to the Police Station where they remain in police custody.

In Shopian, a police party of Police Station Imamsahib under the supervision of SSP Shopian at a checkpoint established at Chotipora crossing intercepted a suspicious person who on seeing the police party tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully. During the search, 1 kg 400 grams of contraband poppy straw like substance was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Gh Mohd Thoker, resident of Barbugh Imamsahib. He was shifted to the Police Station where he remains in custody.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigations have been initiated.

"Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community," police said.
