4 die, 3 injured in Kulgam accident
Kulgam, May 25: Four Punjab-based travellers died while three suffered grievous injuries after they met with an accident in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday.
According to an official, the incident took place when a vehicle they were travelling in veered off the road in the Nipora area of the district, resulting in the injuries of seven travellers.
“They were immediately rushed to GMC, Anantnag, where doctors declared four of them dead on arrival,” said the official.
He identified the deceased as Sandeep Sharma, son of Jagmohan Sharma; Jagdeesh, son of Sirabjeet, Romi Sharma, son of Surjeet Singh; and Gurmeet Singh, son of Darshan Singh, all residents of Punjab.
The official said that the injured were later sent to SKIMS, given the grave nature of their injuries.
According to the official, the vehicle was on its way from Jammu to Srinagar when the incident occurred.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed grief over the Kulgam accident.
In a condolence message, the LG said: “I am deeply grieved and saddened to learn about the loss of precious lives in an unfortunate road accident in Kulgam today. My sincere condolences to the bereaved families. Praying for the early recovery of the injured. I have directed the district administration to provide all necessary assistance, as provided in the rule, to the affected families.”
