4 arrested with heroin in Katra

Ramban, Nov 23: Police apprehended four individuals and recovered 8.2 grams of heroin (Chitta) from their possession during routine checking at Searli Check Post, Katra in Reasi district on Sunday.

According to police, a van (JK08B-0490), on its way from Panthal to Katra, was intercepted at the checkpoint. Four persons, including the driver, were onboard. During their personal search, police recovered the 8.2 grams heroin (contraband substance).

The arrested persons have been identified as Joginder Singh (driver), son of Kashmir Singh resident of Tareru, Kalakote, Rajouri; Mohammad Fareed, son of Munshi Khan, resident of Dhraman, Kotranka, Rajouri; Mohammad Yasir, son of Mohammad Qayoom, resident of Dhraman, Kotranka, Rajouri and Altaf Hussain, son of Noor Hussain, resident of Targain, Kotranka, Rajouri.

Police said the vehicle used in the offence was also seized.

The operation was carried out by SHO Police Station Katra, under the supervision of senior police officers.

A case FIR No. 317 under Sections 8/21/22/29 of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Katra.

Meanwhile, the Senior Superintendent of Police, Reasi, Paramveer Singh reiterated that the district Police remained committed to eradicating the drug menace and ensuring a safe, crime-free environment for citizens.
