4.9-magnitude earthquake jolts Kashmir
The quake originated from north Kashmir’s Baramulla, National Centre for Seismology said.

Srinagar, Aug 20: A 4.9-magnitude earthquake jolted Kashmir valley on Tuesday morning.
As per National Centre for Seismology, the epicentre of the quake that hit Kashmir at 6: 45 am, was in northern Baramulla district.

“EQ of M: 4.9, On: 20/08/2024 06:45:57 IST, Lat: 34.17 N, Long: 74.16 E, Depth: 5 Km, Location: Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir,” said the NCS, in a post on X.
There was no immediate report of any loss of life or property.
Most parts of Kashmir Valley, and Doda, Ramban, Kishtwar in Jammu region fall under Seismic Zone V - very high damage risk zone, as per Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority.

A man was also injured after he jumped from a building to escape earthquake in north Kashmir’s Baramulla, reports said.
