3rd UT Ladakh Taekwondo Championship concludes in Kargil
Kargil, Oct 27: The 3rd UT Ladakh Taekwondo Championship concluded successfully at Badminton Hall, Baroo, Kargil, featuring over 100 athletes competing in Kyorugi and Poomsae categories.
The event, organised by the Ladakh Taekwondo Association (LTA), drew participants from both districts of the Union Territory.
Dr Muhammad Jaffer Akhoon, Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of LAHDC Kargil, attended as the chief guest. At the same time, Joint Director Youth Services and Sports UT Ladakh, Tahir Hussain Zubdavi, was the guest of honour. Advocate Khadim Hussain, Councillor Baroo, attended as a special guest.
Other notable attendees included LTA President Gulzar Hussain Munshi, LTA General Secretary Anayat Ali, SAI Centre Kargil In-charge Ghulam Mustafa, and SAI Coach Parveen.
In his address, CEC Dr. Akhoon praised the LTA's efforts in organizing the championship and its achievements at national and international levels. He announced the sanctioning of the Ladakh Sports Council Headquarters in Kargil and the approval of funds for completing an international-level, all-weather ice hockey rink. Dr. Akhoon further declared a grant of Rs 3 lakh for international-standard Taekwondo mats and revealed that LAHDC Kargil has allocated Rs. 5 crore for constructing a hostel for specially-abled children
Guest of Honor Tahir Hussain Zubdavi pledged continued support from the UT Administration for sports infrastructure development and athlete support programs. He emphasised that developing sports infrastructure and athlete support remains a focus to help Ladakhi athletes excel on national and international platforms.
LTA President Gulzar Hussain Munshi presented a memorandum requesting a dedicated Taekwondo training hall in Kargil, enhanced infrastructure and equipment support, and financial assistance for national and international competitions. He also announced plans for the association's 25th-anniversary celebration next year, highlighting its national-level achievements.
The ceremony concluded with the distribution of medals, mementoes, and certificates to players and members, marking another milestone in Ladakh's sporting development. The event not only showcased the region's athletic talent but also emphasised the administration's commitment to strengthening sports infrastructure in Ladakh.
