3rd Junior Asian Pencak Silat Championship 2025 concludes in Srinagar
Srinagar, Sep 30: Vietnam emerged as the overall champion with eight gold medals as the 3rd Junior Asian Pencak Silat Championship concluded on Tuesday in Srinagar with a vibrant closing ceremony celebrating six days of competition and cultural exchange.
The championship, as per a statement, held from September 25 to 30, witnessed the participation of over 300 athletes from 11 Asian nations—India, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Kazakhstan. Young martial artists showcased remarkable skill, discipline, and sportsmanship, making this edition one of the most memorable in the tournament’s history.
As per the medal tally, India bagged 51 medals in total, which included 7 gold, 18 silver, and 26 bronze.
Officials from PERSILAT (International Pencak Silat Federation) lauded the flawless organisation by the Indian Pencak Silat Federation and praised Srinagar’s emergence as a new hub for international martial arts.
The medals and trophies were distributed by the Chief Guest, Nasir Aslam Wani, Advisor to the Chief Minister of J&K, in the presence of the Secretary of the J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul; the Chief Sports Officer, Anissa Nabi; DSO Javaid ur Rehman; and the Chief Coach.
In a gesture of cultural exchange, traditional Indonesian shawls were presented to Nuzhat Gul, Anissa Nabi, Gazala, Javaid, and Sheikh.
The evening concluded with the ceremonial handover of the championship flag to the next host nation, symbolising the continuity of friendship, resilience, and sporting excellence.
