3rd bariatric surgery programme concludes at GMC Srinagar

Srinagar, June 11: Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar successfully concluded an educational programme focused on prevalence and management of obesity.

The programme marks a significant milestone in ongoing efforts to empower the next generation of medical professionals.

Under the guidance of Prof (Dr) Iqbal Saleem Mir, Head of the Department of Minimal Access and General Surgery, GMC Srinagar, the programme brought together distinguished experts in their respective fields for a day of insightful discussions, engaging presentations, and collaborative learning experiences.

Speakers included Dr Insha Rauf (consultant psychiatrist), Dr Mohammad Hayat Bhat (Head Endocrinology), Dr Naveed Nazir Shah (Head Pulmonology), Dr Hina Bashir (Head Anaesthesiology & Critical Care) and Dr Arshad Rashid (Associate Professor Surgery).

The audience was enthralled by the brilliant presentations of these experts. Dr Arun Prasad (Director Robotic Surgery, Indraprastha Apollo, New Delhi) joined this educational event virtually. This educational activity was held as part of the laparoscopic skill advancement programme (LAPSAP)- a flagship educational initiative of the postgraduate department of surgery, GMC Srinagar.

Through interactive sessions, participants gained practical insights into diagnosis, treatment modalities, and surgical techniques, preparing them for the realities of clinical practice.

The audience benefitted by the expert opinions of senior faculty from SKIMS Soura, SKIMS Medical College, Bemina, GMC Baramulla; besides senior faculty from various departments of GMC Srinagar.

Principal/ Dean GMC Srinagar Dr Iffat Hassan Shah while welcoming the participants congratulated the department of surgery for this initiative and expressed the desire that such activities should become a norm in the future. The success of this programme underscores the dedication and commitment of the academic community at GMC Srinagar to nurturing excellence in medical education and healthcare delivery.
