Jammu, Feb 4: The education department in Karnah constituency has been left on crutches as around 38 percent of teaching positions are lying vacant in schools for the past few years.

The rural area schools in this constituency have remained out of focus of the department as against sanctioned strength of 98 posts of Masters only 63 are filled while 35 are lying vacant.
The dearth of teachers tells upon the academic standards in these schools, leaving students at the receiving end.
Also against the sanctioned strength of 224 teacher grade posts only 159 are filled while 65 posts are lying vacant.
The government has however attributed the teacher vacancy to freezing of these posts for withdrawal of the salary of Teacher Grade II and III, who were absorbed in the department in 2018.
These figures were revealed in a written reply of minister for education Sakina Itoo in response t a query raised by MLA Karnah, Javed Ahmad Mirchal.
