Jammu, Dec 2: Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL), in collaboration with Government Degree College, Hiranagar (Kathua), organised a one-day seminar, dedicated to the 350th martyrdom day of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji in the college campus, today.

Principal Dr Pragya Khanna; Popinder Singh Paras, senior editor, Sheeraza Punjabi; Dr Sukhwinder Singh; Jang S Verman and Dr Balwinder Kour HoD Punjabi were present on the dais.

The programme commenced with the lighting of the lamp. In her welcome address, Dr Pragya Khanna appreciated the efforts of the Academy for organising programmes which emphasise on spreading the heritage and values of the communities which helped connect young students from far-flung areas, with the cultural and literary awareness.

She also highlighted the teachings, life and supreme sacrifice of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji.

Dr Sukhwinder Singh presented the keynote address, putting light with his insightful and detailed lecture on the emergence of situations the life and martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji.

Jang S Verman presented a poem in Punjabi, depicting different stages of the life of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur and his ultimate martyrdom. Manpreet Kour presented a paper on the life and contribution of Guru Tegh Bahadur for the betterment of civic life.

The programme also featured poetry presentations by the young students of GDC Hiranagar. They recited verses dedicated to Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji.

Popinder Singh Paras shared valuable insights about the activities of the Academy and spoke at length about the significance of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s sacrifice and teachings of Sikh Gurus.

During the event, Academy also arranged a book exhibition, under the supervision of Purshotam Kumar and Trilok Singh, showcasing Academy’s publications.

Dr Balwinder Kour (HoD Punjabi) conducted the proceedings of the programme. The vote of thanks was presented by Dr Anupama Arora.
