Srinagar, Feb 19: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday informed the Legislative Assembly that around 35 percent government schools in Hazratbal constituency of Srinagar were operating from rented accommodation.

This was revealed in a written reply of minister for education Sakina Itoo to a question raised by MLA Salman Ali Sagar.

Sagar asked about the details of the infrastructure available in the schools of Hazratbal constituency.

The minister for education in a written reply said that the 77 government schools were presently functioning in Hazratbal Constituency.

These schools include five Higher Secondary Schools, 12 High Schools, 43 Middle Schools and 17 Primary Schools respectively.

"Out of 77 schools, 50 schools are housed in Government owned buildings while 27 schools are functioning from rented accommodations," the written reply reads.

"All the schools are provided with essential curricular and co curricular facilities as per prescribed norms," the House was informed.

The House was further informed that the High Schools and Higher Secondary Schools were strengthened with modern and innovative educational facilities, including ICT laboratories, fully equipped science laboratories, vocational education trades, solar power installations, and innovation based learning laboratories.

"The department has enhanced the overall quality of education besides promoting skill oriented learning among students," the reply reads.

About the vacant positions in the Hazratbal constituency, the House was informed that 46 posts including 13 posts of lecturer, seven posts of masters and 26 posts of non teaching staff were lying vacant in the constituency.

"In addition to this, 116 posts of teachers are also vacant but all these posts have been freezed and utilized for drawal of salary in respect of RRET teachers," the reply reads.

The government said that the infrastructural deficiencies of schools in Hazratbal Constituency were systematically projected under the Annual Work Plan & Budget (AWP&B) under Samagra Shiksha.

"Maximum works approved under the plan have already received administrative and financial sanction. Several works are under tendering process," the reply reads.

The government said that many approved works have already commenced at the ground level.

"These interventions include construction of additional classrooms, improvement of toilet blocks, and provision of safe drinking water facilities in schools," the reply reads.

The government said that toilet blocks have been provided additionally to six schools in the constituency.

"Repair and renovation of 13 schools has been undertaken during the current financial year. Additionally, Rs 45.77 lakhs has been provided for construction of new block in place of dilapidated one at BMS Bagati Shoor," the rely reads.

It reads that Rs 8.76 lakhs has been earmarked for installation of solar panels with SSD at BHSS Gulab Bagh out of Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

"All the schools in the constituency have toilet and drinking water facilities available. It is assured that any school which could not be covered or not approved in the earlier submitted plans shall be duly assessed and projected in the forthcoming Annual Works Plan and Budget (AWP&B) 2026– 27 under Samagra Shiksha, so that no institution remains deprived of essential infrastructural facilities," the government reply reads.
