Srinagar, Apr 29: The process of deportation of about 34 persons mostly women residing in Kashmir illegally or at Short Term Visa (STV) to Pakistan and no decision to push the women who have come under erstwhile J&K rehabilitation policy has been taken. The move, ordered by the Central Government, comes amid heightened security and a crackdown on Pakistani nationals in Jammu and Kashmir.

The orders of deportation were issued by Deputy Commissioners of Districts and Criminal Investigation Department served as Nodal Agency.

Officials said that the 34 mostly women were taken from various districts of Kashmir. They said most of them are married here and were residing illegally or Short Term Visa. “Anybody having Long Term Visa are not being pushed back,” officials said, adding that so far there is no decision to push back women who have come J&K on erstwhile J&K Government rehabilitation policy to Pakistan. The deported women, officials said, would be handed over to Pakistani officials at the Wagah border in Punjab in the coming days. Officials say the action is part of a broader policy shift in the wake of the recent escalation in terror activity.
