33 schools, colleges, roads named after martyrs, eminent persons

Jammu, Jan 30: Government Degree College (Boys), Anantnag has been named after brave-heart Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Humayun Mazamil Bhat while Government Boys High School, Narwara in Srinagar will be named after the late Inspector Masroor Ali Wani.

Similarly, Government High School Ajote in Poonch has been named after the late Havildar Abdul Majid and Government High School, Chak Malal, zone Khour, tehsil Khour, in district Jammu will be renamed to commemorate the memory of late Rifleman Vishal Sharma.

These brave-hearts were on the list of the J&K government, sanctioning the naming of infrastructure or assets (schools, colleges, roads and grounds) after 33 ‘martyrs and eminent persons.’

It has been directed that the concerned Administrative Secretaries will take immediate necessary steps, including amending their records, for effecting the changes. Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir and Jammu will personally monitor the naming of the infrastructure or assets in their respective divisions. Deputy Commissioners will ensure that appropriate events are held in connection with the naming of these infrastructure and assets.

As per the list, High School, Galigarh in Kishtwar district has been named after late Rifleman Ravi Kumar; in Jammu district, Government High School (Lehar) Sungal, Akhnoor will be named after late Head Constable Rachhpal Singh; in Udhampur district, Government Middle School, Urliyan, will be named after late Subedar Krishan Singh and Government Girls High School, Mantalai has been named after late Rifleman Yash Paul.

In Ramban district, Sargali cricket ground has been rechristened to commemorate the memory of late SPO Tanveer Ahmed as ‘Shaheed Tanveer Ahmed Memorial Cricket Ground, Sargali’; in Jammu district, Government High School, Sungal has been named after the late L N K Krishan Singh; Government Middle School, Dharam Khoo has been named after late NK Dhian Singh Salaria; Government Higher Secondary School, Gharota will be named after late Rifleman Sham Singh Langeh and Government High School, Majua Uttami after the name of late Naib Subedar Parshotam Kumar.

In Ramban district, Ramsoo Chowk has been rechristened as “Shaheed Irshad Ahmad Chowk” to commemorate memory of late SgCt Irshad Ahmad; Neel Chowk as “Shaheed Abdul Rehman Malik
Chowk” in memory of late HC Abdul Rehman; Government Middle School, Dudha Bhajmasta has been named after late SPO Jagdish Singh; to commemorate memory of late SPO Shankar Singh, Ukhral to Bhangra road has been renamed as “Shaheed Shankar Singh Road”;

Ind Road has been rechristened to commemorate the memory of late SgCt Nisar Ahmad, late SPOs Sher Mohd, Shadi Lal, Sher Singh, Mohd Iqbal, Fareed Ahmad and Angrez Singh as “Ind Martyrs Road.”

In Ramban district, Shaheed Naseeb Singh Taxi Stand, Nabul has been dedicated to the memory of late SPO Naseeb Singh; Shaheed Jattu Ram Chowk, Marog, Ramban has been dedicated to late SPO Jattu Ram Mob; Shaheed Mohd Saleem Chowk, Sirlan to late SPO Mohd Saleem; Shaheed Anar Singh Chowk, Hunga to late SPO Anar Singh; Shaheed Abdul Majeed Bus Stand, Panchal to late Constable late Abdul Majeed and Shaheed Naseeb Singh Playground, Hochak to late Constable Naseeb Singh.

Similarly, Shaheed Daler Singh Chowk, Digdol; Shaheed Sarfaraz Khatana Chowk Bhaderwah Morh Batote and Shaheed Abdul Qayoom Failty Road in Ramban district have been named after late Constables Daler Singh, Sarfaraz Ahmad and late ASI Abdul Qayoom respectively.
