Jammu, Sep 05: A total of 310 candidates filed their nomination papers across 26 assembly constituencies of six districts of Jammu and Kashmir which are going to polls in the second phase of the J&K assembly election.

Thursday was the last day of filing nomination papers for the second phase of the assembly polls scheduled to be held on September 25.

A total of 310 candidates filed 329 nomination papers for the second phase of the assembly polls, a statement from the office of Chief Electoral Officer said.

Of these 112 candidates filed their nominations in Srinagar district, followed by 68 in Budgam, 47 in Rajouri, 35 in Poonch, while 24 candidates each filed nominations in Reasi and Ganderbal districts.

In Jammu division, for the three assembly constituencies in Reasi, seven candidates filed nomination from 56-Gulabgarh (ST); 10 from 57-Reasi; and seven from 58-Shri Mata Vaishno Devi.

In the five assembly constituencies of Rajouri district, 11 candidates filed nomination from 83-Kalakote – Sunderbani; seven from 84-Nowshera; 14 from 85-Rajouri (ST); seven from 86-Budhal (ST); while eight from 87-Thannamandi (ST).

For the three assembly constituencies in Poonch, a total of 11 candidates filed nomination from 88-Surankote (ST); 13 from 89-Poonch Haveli; and 11 from 90-Mendhar (ST).

In Kashmir division, for the two assembly constituencies in Ganderbal district, six candidates filed nomination from 17-Kangan (ST) and 18 from 18-Ganderbal.

For the eight assembly constituencies in Srinagar, a total of 18 candidates filed nomination from 19-Hazratbal; 10 from 20-Khanyar; 20 from 21-Habba Kadal AC; 12 from 22-Lal Chowk; nine from 23-Chanapora; 15 from 24-Zadibal; 15 from 25-Eidgah; and 13 from 26-Central Shalteng.

In the five assembly constituencies in Budgam district, 12 candidates filed nomination from 27-Budgam; 18 from 28-Beerwah; 17 from 29-Khan Sahab; 12 from 30-Charar-e-Sharief; and 9 from 31-Chadoora.

The notification for the phase II was issued on August 29 and the last date for filing the nominations was September 5 till 3 pm.

The nomination papers would be scrutinised by the respective Returning Officers on September 6 while the candidates can withdraw their nomination papers by September 9 upto 3 pm in the office of the Returning Officer.

Thereafter, validly nominated candidates would be in the electoral fray.

The polling for these 26 assembly constituencies in phase II is scheduled for September 25 and the voting would be conducted from 7 am to 6 pm.
