30,000 fish die after cloudburst in Ramban : Officials
Ramban, Sep 01: Fish farmers of Rahgarh suffered heavy losses as more than 30, 000 trout fish died after catastrophic cloudburst that struck in Rajgarh tehsil of Ramban on August, 26, official sources said.
Officials said the flood, carrying heavy silt, severely impacted the water sources and trout raceways in the area, eight trout raceways were affected and two trout raceways were washed away.
According to fisheries department Ramban, the primary cause of mortality was the silt load and the resulting stress from the interruption in water supply, leading to a depletion of dissolved oxygen levels.
An official report submitted to concerned authorities recommended that affected farmers be given all possible support/help so that they can stand up and again run their fish culture as they used to run the fisheries venture. Pertinent mention that the Farmers had also availed KCC loan facility and are now in debt.
