3 terrorists involved in Pattan grenade attack arrested: Police
Pattan, Jan 11: Baramulla Police have arrested three terrorists, involved in the grenade attack at 163 Territorial Army premises located in Hamray, Pattan on January 7. The arrests, as per police, took place within 24 hours of the grenade throwing incident.
Police also recovered a cache of arms and ammunition from their possession including one hand grenade, one AK-series rifle, one pistol, 256 live AK rounds, and 21 live pistol rounds.
The identities of the arrested terrorists have been withheld to ensure the success of ongoing investigations and the possibility of further arrests and recoveries.
While giving details of the incident by the SP operation, Feroz Yahya, during a press conference on Saturday, said on January 7 at around 7:30 PM, unidentified terrorists lobbed a grenade at the 163 Territorial Army premises.
As per police, the grenade exploded over the MI room structure, causing extensive damage to the structure. In this connection, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered at Police Station Pattan under FIR No. 1/2025, under sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, and an investigation was launched.
While giving details of the arrested terrorists, the SP operations said that among the arrested terrorists, one is a released surrendered terrorist. While the second arrested terrorist is the son of a surrendered terrorist. “The third arrested person is the mastermind and had been evading arrest for the past two years in connection with a narco-terrorism case and had fled the area to evade arrest,” said SP operations .While expressing concern over the involvement of the released surrendered terrorists and their family members, Yahya said “Our efforts to reintegrate surrendered terrorists into the mainstream are being undermined by incidents like this,” he said and warned surrendered terrorists to refrain from engaging in unlawful activities.
