3 structures gutted at Gulab Bagh
Srinagar, Jan 29: At least three structures were gutted in a fire incident that broke out at Zakura’s Gulab Bagh area of Srinagar on Thursday.
Officials from the Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) said that the department received a fire call at around 11:17 am, following which multiple fire tenders and firefighting units were rushed to the spot from Hazratbal and Shalimar fire stations.
“As soon as our teams reached the location, we found that at least three tin-made structures, mostly constructed with GCI sheets, were engulfed in flames,” the official said. He added that two of the gutted structures were being used as cow sheds, while the third was used as a storage shed for timber and dry grass.
Officials said that firefighters swung into action immediately and managed to contain the blaze within a short time, preventing it from spreading to nearby residential areas and other structures. “The fire was brought under control swiftly, which helped avert a major loss,” the official said.
However, during the firefighting operation, one fireman sustained a minor injury while dousing the flames. He was given first aid on the spot, and his condition was stated to be stable.
Locals said thick smoke could be seen rising from the area, causing panic among residents of the locality. They appreciated the prompt response of the fire services, which helped limit the damage.
Officials said that the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, and an investigation into the incident has been initiated. “We are examining all possible angles to determine what triggered the fire,” the official added.
