3 missing students of Sopore Madrassa traced from Gujarat: Police

Based on the advanced technical inputs, the trio was traced out in Gujarat

Sopore, Aug 13: Three students, who went missing from a Madrassa in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, have been traced from Gujarat, Police said on Tuesday.

A Police spokesman in a statement issued here said that on August 5, 2024 evening, the Principal of Darul Uloom, Mahrajpora, Sopore, submitted a written application at Police Station Sopore, reporting that three students enrolled with the Dar-ul-Aloom, Abdul Waheed Dar, 22, son of Ghulam Muhammad of Patoosa Rafiabad, Baramulla, Mohsin Bashir Chohan, 22, son of Bashir Ahmad of Batpora, Bandipora, and Fazil Ahmad Sheikh, 18, son of Muhammad Yousuf of Beerwa, Ahangam, Budgam had gone missing since August 3, 2024.

Police registered a missing report and efforts were started to trace the missing trio.

The Police spokesman said that a special team headed by SHO Sopore Inspector Ayaz Geelani under the supervision of SDPO Sopore Sarfaraz Bashir was constituted by SP Sopore Divya to trace the missing persons.

Based on the advanced technical inputs, the trio was traced out in Gujarat.

Subsequently, a team from Police Station Sopore was deputed to Gujarat and recovered the missing trio there. The missing students revealed that the tight schedule of the Dar-ul-Aloom compelled them to make such a decision to flee outside J&K.

They were later handed over to their families.
