3 houses, masjid gutted in Khanyar blaze

Srinagar, Dec 6: Four structures were gutted in a fire incident at Khanyar area in Downtown today.

Officials of Fire and Emergency Services said, the fire incident occurred near Gousiya Market area of the Khanyar locality.

The officials said they received information about the fire incident at around 3:30 p.m. They said multiple fire tenders from Headquarters, Gawkadal, Rainawari, Hazratbal, and SH Pora were pressed to douse the fire.

“At least four structures were gutted in the fire. These structures include two three-story residential houses, one double-storey house, and a masjid. We pressed in multiple units of the fire and emergency services to douse off the flames, but heavy damage was inflicted on these structures. Fortunately, there was no loss of life or any injury,” said the official

The officials said that the cause of the fire is under investigation. They said the fire started from one of the structures and spread quickly in the congested locality.

“This is a closely packed area, and that is why the fire spread quickly. Our teams managed to contain the fire and keep it from spreading to other structures,” said the official.
