3 houses gutted in Guru Bazar blaze
Srinagar, May 14: At least three houses were gutted in a fire incident at Guru Bazar area of Downtown.
As per officials, the fire incident started in one of the houses and spread to the adjacent structures.
An official from Fire and Emergency Services said that they received information about the incident at around 4:17 pm and rushed multiple fire units to douse the flames. They said that fire tenders from Headquarters and Habakadal were pressed into control the fire.
“At least three houses were gutted in the incident, and another house was damaged indirectly. These were two three-story houses and one five-story house. In most of the structure, the attic portion was severely damaged. We brought the fire under control, and the cause of the fire is being investigated,” said the official
The locals said that fire and emergency operations in the congested locality are tough, and they are always vulnerable to these incidents. They said that the families lost all their belongings to this incident.
“The locals also helped, along with the fire and emergency department. The congested locality is always prone to these fire incidents, and there needs to be a proper plan to mitigate such incidents. Mostly poor people are victims of these incidents who are cramped up in congested localities with multiple families living in small residential structures,” said a local.
Meanwhile, a team of District administration, Srinagar led by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Aadil Fareed today visited Guru Bazar area in Tehsil South of the District to provide immediate assistance to the fire affected families whose houses were gutted in a fire incidents here on Wednesday.
The Immediate relief was sanctioned by Deputy Commissioner Srinagar and was provided to the affected families in the form of blankets, Mattress etc to each affected families as an interim relief out of the District Red Cross Fund.
The Team of District Administration Srinagar also expressed sympathy with the affected families on loss of property.
