3 drug smugglers booked under PIT NDPS Act in Kupwara

Kupwara, Apr 23: Three drug smugglers were booked under the PIT NDPS Act in Kupwara, Police said Tuesday.

“Acting tough against the drug peddlers and to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police booked three drug smugglers under PIT NDPS Act in Kupwara,” a statement of J&K Police issued here said.

“The drug smugglers Azad Ahmad Khan of Chalgund, Hyhama; Shabir Ahmad Hajam of Check Halmatpora; and Waseem Ahmad Shah of Harkarpora Awoora were involved in case FIR No 235/2022 of Police Station Kupwara and Case FIR No 07/ 22 of Trehgam and have been booked under PIT-NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority.

The booked drug smugglers have been detained and lodged at Central Jail Kot Balwal Jammu,” the statement said. “Many cases are registered against these drug smugglers. They were involved in promoting the drug trade by supplying drugs to local youth of the district. Despite their involvement in many FIRs, they did not mend their activities and were again involved in promoting drug abuse by supplying drugs to local youth.
