Ramban, Dec 3: Police arrested three alleged peddlers after recovering a significant quantity of heroin in Tikri area of Udhampur on Wednesday.

According to officials, a police team from Police Post Tikri was conducting routine naka checking when they stopped a vehicle bearing registration number JK01AX-1491, on its way from Jammu towards Srinagar. During the inspection, three men, who were found in the car, were questioned.

The individuals identified themselves as Ishfaq Majid Dhar, son of Mohammad Abdullah Dar, resident of Shivpora Srinagar; Umar Shafiq, son of Mohammad Shafi, resident of Chanpora Srinagar; and Moshin Aslam Khan, son of Mohammad Aslam Khan, resident of Sheikhpora Budgam.

During their personal search, police recovered 53.44 grams of heroin from their possession. When questioned about the narcotics, all three failed to provide any satisfactory explanation.

Following the recovery, a case under FIR No. 204/2025, registered under sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act, was lodged at Police Station Rehambal.

A senior police officer said that with these arrests, the total number of drug peddlers apprehended by Udhampur Police this year had risen to 183, reiterating the department’s firm commitment to making the district drug-free.

Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking.
