3 drug peddlers arrested in baramulla

Baramulla, Jan 17: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, police have arrested 3 drug peddlers in Baramulla and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

A police party of Police Station Baramulla headed by SHO PS Baramulla at a checkpoint established at Jetty road Khawajabagh intercepted one person. During the search, 25 grams of Brown Sugar like substances was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Aqib Ahmad Bhat @Ponty resident of Sherwani Colony Khawajabagh. He has been arrested and shifted to PS Baramulla where he remains in custody.

Similarly, a police party led by SHO Police Station Kunzer at a checkpoint established at Mulgam Kunzer intercepted one person. During the search, 1.5  kg of cannabis powder-like substance was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh resident of Mulgam Kunzer. He has been arrested and shifted to PS Kunzer where he remains in custody.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and further investigations have been initiated.

Moreover, during investigation of case 5/2024 U/S 8/20/22/29 NDPS Act of PS Kunzer, one more drug peddler identified as Shabir Ahmad Sofi @JK resident of Mazhoma Magam has been arrested during a special checkpoint established at Chichiloora. During the search, 15 grams of charas like substance was also recovered from his possession. He has been shifted to Police Station Kunzer where he remains in custody. Further investigation of the case is going on.

“We urge the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact the nearest police establishment or dial 112. People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law,” police said.
