3-day workshop for caregivers begins to enhance elderly care skills

Srinagar, Mar 12: In a pioneering initiative, Moul Mouj Foundation, in collaboration with GK Labs, organised a specialised workshop for caregivers at Kashmir Clinics Central.

The workshop focuses on comprehensive geriatric assessment, practical caregiving techniques and hands-on training in essential medical tools, aiming to equip caregivers with the necessary skills to enhance elderly care.

A unique aspect of the workshop is the participation of 35 young attendees, promoting a sense of care, empathy, and responsibility towards elders in their own families and communities.

Dr. Zubair Saleem, a renowned geriatrician, highlighted the crucial role of trained caregivers in senior health management. “Through our experience in treating elderly patients, we have observed a significant disconnect between caregivers and seniors. Equipping caregivers with proper awareness and education is just as vital as the care itself. This workshop serves as a bridge to close that gap, advancing better and more compassionate elderly care at home.”

Dr. Shakeel ur Rehman, Secretary General MMF, highlighted the need for practical training. “Beyond theory, hands-on skills like checking vitals, fall prevention and CPR are essential. This workshop empowers caregivers with real-world techniques.”

The Director of GK Labs stressed the role of technology in elderly care. "Proper training in the use of essential medical devices like glucometers, digital BP monitors and pulse oximeters can make a significant difference in managing senior health. This workshop ensures that caregivers gain hands-on experience in using these tools effectively, allowing for timely intervention and better health monitoring," she remarked.

By engaging young participants, the workshop not only provides essential training but also nurtures a culture of respect and compassion towards elders. Through this initiative, Moul Mouj Foundation and GK Labs aim to bridge the gap between medical care and daily caregiving, ultimately improving the overall well-being of senior citizens.
