297 arrested in Baramulla this year, 92 vehicles seized in July in Budgam

Baramulla, Aug 05: Police in its ongoing drive against illegal mining in Baramulla have registered 179 cases and arrested 297 persons for being involved in extraction and transportation of minerals since January 2024.

Moreover, 297 vehicles used in illegal transport of minerals which includes 128 Tippers, 161 tractors and 8 excavators have also been seized from different areas of the district.

Baramulla Police along with the Mineral Department realised fine in lakhs for illegal extraction and transportation of minerals in the district.

Meanwhile, Police in Budgam have seized a total of 92 vehicles including 59 Tippers, 3 JCB and 10 LNT 20 tractors which were involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals in the month of July.

“Budgam Police is committed to act tough against these violators. Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding illegal mineral-related activities in their neighbourhood,” police said.
