New Delhi, Dec 1: In the latest development surrounding the India-China border situation, the 28th meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs (WMCC) transpired on November 30.

Leading the discussions were the Joint Secretary (East Asia) from the Ministry of External Affairs, representing India, and the Director-General of Boundary & Oceanic Affairs from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, both delegations conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the current conditions along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Western Sector of the India-China border areas.

Officials said that the discussions were characterized by an open, constructive, and in-depth exchange of views on various proposals aimed at resolving outstanding issues and achieving a complete disengagement in Eastern Ladakh.

However, the official press release notably remained silent on any specific advancements regarding the persistent friction points at Demchok and Depsang, where troops from both nations remain stationed near the LAC and harsh winters up in the hills continue to bring more difficulties.

Despite numerous rounds of diplomatic and military dialogues in the past, significant progress has been achieved in withdrawing troops from other friction points such as the north and south banks of Pangong Lake, Gogra, and Hot Spring.
