28th Post Graduate Research Presentation Programme begins at SKIMS
Srinagar, Nov 2: The 28th Post Graduate Research Representation Programme at SKIMS started today. The event is aimed to record the presentation of 170 research papers of PG and post-doctoral scholars of the Institute on a multitude themes and issues concerning human health and medical sciences.
The mega academic event was inaugurated today at the Institute’s auditorium with Nasir Aslam Wani ,Advisor to Chief Minister J&K as the Chief Guest. The event has been organised by the Department of Pediatric Surgery SKIMS with Prof. Nisar A Bhat as the Organising Chairman. The event started with "Mentor Talk" delivered online by the Director AIIMS, New Delhi Prof. M Srinivas witnessed an overwhelmed response from the audience at jam-packed SKIMS Auditorium.
The research presentations will cover topics related to the prevalence of various disorders and diseases in populations of J&K, the analysis of various treatment approaches, introduction of an innovative method to handle a disorder and comparisons of the efficacy of methods and methodologies in medical sciences, including investigations, apart from others.
The scholars from various departments of the Institute will present the outcomes of their research spanning over the past three years. The event is organised every year and is major highlight of the academics at the Institute.
Advisor to C.M, Nasir Aslam Wani appreciated the founder of the PGRP event Late Syed Zahoor, former director for his vision in conceiving the 'PGRP at SKIMS. Wani said these platforms encourage youngsters to present their work and boost their confidence in their formative years. He acknowledged the role of SKIMS and its contribution to the community and assured full support of the govt. to the Institute to carry forward the legacy of its founder Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah.
Speaking about the event, Director SKIMS & EOSG, Prof. M. Ashraf Ganie said research is an important pillar of SKIMS along with patient care and teaching.
“PGRP is the platform for our youngsters to showcase their research and get weaned into the canvas of formal research that is the backbone to the patient care," he said.
He said the faculty & students of the institute this year presented around 170 research papers which shows the commitment of the SKIMS towards academic advances and the Institute was conceived with three aims-- to provide quality patient care, to carry out meaningful research and to develop manpower.
“SKIMS has been among the top research institutes in the Country and its academic merit has been recognised for a long time," he added.
Director SKIMS said that with support from current dispensation, the Institute will work cohesively and carry forward the legacy of its founder with greater determination & commitment.
Dean Medical Faculty Dr. Shariq R Madoodi & Organising Chairman of the event Prof. Nisar Ahmad Bhat highlighted the significance of the event and appreciated & thanked all the participants for making the event successful. Prof Aejaz Ahsan Baba the organising secretary of the event presented the vote of thanks.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by former directors, faculty and heads of various institutes, besides students & scholars.
The scientific sessions will continue for the second consecutive day and the best presentations from different specialities presentations will be awarded in a valedictory function in the presence of various dignitaries, and faculty members from SKIMS & other Institutions.
