Kupwara, Oct 15: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday said that as part of the rehabilitation process, nearly 250 government jobs had been provided to the terror-affected families in the last three months.

Talking to media persons after meeting terror-affected families at Government Degree College, Kupwara, LG Sinha said justice would be served to all the affected families across Jammu and Kashmir, and those responsible for inflicting atrocities would not be spared.

The LG said that the process of providing government jobs to terror victims would resume once the by-polls for Budgam and Nagrota assembly segments are held.

He said that the affected families from Kupwara would also be provided jobs once the by-elections are over.

Highlighting rehabilitation measures, LG Sinha said that key steps had been taken to help those families who were subjected to terror atrocities and in the process lost their breadwinners.

“Apart from government jobs, the administration will financially support those affected families who want to become economically self-reliant,” he said.

The LG assured that those terror-affected families who were left homeless would be provided with new houses with the support of a few social organisations.

He said that the administration was committed to taking concrete steps with regard to rehabilitating the terror victim families.

“Let the affected families trust us, and we will reach out to each family,” LG Sinha said.

About closed tourist destinations in the district, he said that several destinations in the Kupwara district had already been reopened, and the remaining places would resume operations soon.

Earlier, during his visit to Dardpora (the widows’ village of Kupwara), the LG said that this village had faced most of the brunt in the past.

“I should have visited here earlier as this village has faced a lot due to terrorism,” he said.

LG Sinha directed the Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kupwara to prepare the data of those families who had not yet been rehabilitated.

He also assured that those 28 families whose houses were fully damaged during the recent cross-border shelling would also receive full government support to build their houses afresh.

The LG reiterated that the government’s focus remains on delivering justice, rehabilitation, and dignity for all families affected by terrorism and violence.

Earlier, he also spoke on the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the High-range Rural Development Society (HRDS India) and Divisional Commissioner Jammu and Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, under which the houses of terror victims having their own land would be constructed.

Under the initiative, the HRDS India and Divisional Commissioners of both divisions would identify terror victim families whose houses were destroyed by the terrorists.

Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg; DIG NKR Baramulla, Maqsood-Ul-Zaman; Deputy Commissioner, Kupwara, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse; SSP Kupwara, Syed Al-Tahir Gilani; Chairman, Save Youth Save Future Foundation, Wajahat Farooq Bhat were also present on the occasion.
