25 sheep, goats killed in Batote road accident
Ramban, Apr 12: Twenty sheep and goats of nomad family were killed and 15 sheep and goats injured in a road accident near CHC Batote on the Batote-Kishtwar National Highway on Friday.
Reports said they were crushed under a speedy vehicle. Following the incident, the nomad family staged a protest demonstration and blocked the Batote –Kishtwar National Highway.
They were demanding compensation from the administration and strict action against the driver involved in the accident.
Police sources said a rashly driven (vehicle) TaTa Mahindra load carrier bearing registration number JK06B-0261 ran over a flock of livestock at CHC, Batote.
They said the incident happened around 10 am, near CHC Batote when Mukhtar Mohammad son of Juma a resident of Samrili, Udhampur along with his livestock was heading towards pastures of Kashtigargh, Doda.
On getting information a Police team led by SHO Police Station Batote, Inspector Vikram Parihar reached the spot and arrested the driver of the vehicle involved in the accident. Following the incident, a group of nomads assembled at the accident spot near CHC Batote and blocked the Batote –Kishtwar National Highway. They were demanding compensation from the administration.
Later senior officers from the administration and police pacified the agitating nomads and assured them of providing every possible help from the administration. On their assurance, protestors lifted the dharna and traffic resumed on Batote Kishtwar National Highway at around 2 pm.
