25 detonators recovered from Ghai village in Rajouri

Army and police have recovered 25 detonators of explosive nature during an operation at Ghai village of Rajouri district today.

Yesterday two minor girls had sustained injuries there. It was reported that they were injured as the fire crackers went off. But today officials said the girls sustained injuries due to a low intensity explosion suspected to have been caused by a detonator.

These detonators of explosive nature can cause explosion ranging from low intensity to medium intensity.

In an explosion on Tuesday evening in the village, two minor girls aged 15 and 10 years sustained critical injuries in their hands. They were removed to GMC Associated Hospital Rajouri where they are under treatment in Orthopaedic ward and are to be operated upon because of the severe damage to their fingers in hands.

The explosion was initially considered to be caused by a cracker but later nature of injuries indicated towards some other kind of explosive instead of bursting of cracker.

Officials said that on Wednesday evening, a team of Armys' Rashtriya Rifles and Police launched a Cordon and Search Operation in the area that continued till late hours during which some metallic pieces were found that were seized from the spot.

On Thursday, the officials said, extensive search operation in the area was started jointly by Armys' Rashtriya Rifles, SOG and teams of Chingus police post.

In the operation, they said, massive recovery of explosive detonators has been made.

"There is apprehension that more detonators could be present in the area and search for same is going on," the officials added.

They further informed that nature of these detonators and their sources is yet not clear and is a subject matter of investigation. Senior army and police officers are camping at the operation site to monitor the proceedings of investigation.
