24 suspects detained; 43 rounded up: SSP Reasi

Jammu, July 4: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Reasi Mohita Sharma Thursday stated that 24 suspects were detained and 43 individuals were rounded up so far, in connection with the act of vandalism at a religious place in the Dharmari area of Arnas.

“A total of 43 suspects have been rounded up and apprehended for questioning. Further investigations into the case are going on,” SSP said, while sharing updated details about the case, which triggered protests across Reasi and other districts of Jammu.

She appealed to the people of Reasi to remain calm and maintain peace and communal harmony.

“The culprit involved in the incident will be brought to the fore in public very soon. Reasi Police are committed to solve the case and trace the culprits at the earliest,” SSP Mohita Sharma said.

Earlier, on July 1, she had asserted that the miscreants, who wanted to create communal flare-up in the district would not be allowed at any cost and the culprit would be booked under stringent Public Safety Act (PSA).

SSP had also announced that the district administration would prepare an inventory of all small or big temples in Reasi and install CCTV cameras there as a deterrent act to prevent recurrence of such incidents in future.
