2 youth die, 1 critical in car-tipper accident
Srinagar, Nov 14: Two youngsters lost their lives as their vehicle collided with a tipper near Tengpora on the Srinagar Bypass on Thursday.
The deceased have been identified as Hammad Showkat Wani of Lal Bazaar and Azeem Asif Sofi of Rawalpora.
Another injured youth has been identified as Eissa Ganaie from Bagh-e-Ali Mardan, Lal Bazaar.
“The speeding Thar vehicle and tipper collided, which led to this unfortunate incident. We have taken cognisance of the incident, and the investigation is ongoing. In the incident, a passenger cab was also hit,” a Police official said.
An official said that the deceased and injured students are students of Delhi Public School, Srinagar.
A Traffic Police official said that youngsters are falling prey to these unfortunate accidents and every stakeholder should take the matter seriously.
“They were budding students, and this is a heartbreaking incident. Parents, school authorities, and other stakeholders should pitch in and play their role in addressing the issue and taking necessary measures in this regard. It will also aid the Traffic Police force in keeping such tragedies in check,” a Traffic Police official said.
He said two precious lives were lost in a jiffy while another was battling for life at a hospital.
Earlier this month, a teenager died while two others were injured after their SUV overturned on the highway in the Lawaypora area on the outskirts of Srinagar.
A few days before that incident, two persons died when a vehicle met with an accident near the same spot in Lawaypora.
Amid the rise in accidents, the people of Srinagar have called on Traffic Police and other stakeholders to take strict action against underage driving and over-speeding.
