Ramban, Nov 3: The Srinagar–Jammu National Highway (NH-44) remained open for two-way traffic of passenger, light, and medium vehicles, while one-way movement of heavy vehicles was allowed towards Srinagar on Monday.

According to traffic authorities, NH-44 will remain open on Tuesday as well, permitting two-way movement of light and medium vehicles and one-way movement of heavy vehicles towards Jammu.

Officials monitoring vehicular movement in Ramban said hundreds of light and medium vehicles plied from both sides between Jammu and Srinagar and crossed safely during the day, though at a slow pace.

Traffic movement was reported to be sluggish at several stretches, including Balli Nullah, Dewal, Nashri–Dalwass, and between Maroog and Kishtwari Pattar, due to single-lane conditions.

The breakdown of a few heavy vehicles and the on-foot movement of nomadic families with their livestock towards Jammu also caused intermittent congestion.

Meanwhile, traffic authorities issued a fresh advisory for Thursday, stating that—subject to fair weather and good road conditions—light and medium vehicles will be allowed to ply from both ends, while heavy vehicles will be permitted to move towards Jammu.

Commuters and drivers have been urged to maintain lane discipline and avoid overtaking or wrong-lane driving to prevent traffic jams and ensure smooth movement on the highway.
