2 tourist vehicles come under avalanche on Srinagar-Leh NH
Ganderbal, Mar 29: A massive avalanche struck the Sonamarg area in Ganderbal district on Friday, causing the temporary blockage of the crucial Srinagar-Leh highway.
The avalanche was witnessed near the Hung area, resulting in the burial of two vehicles under the snow.
Both the vehicles were carrying tourists to Sonamarg when they were hit by the avalanche.
Prompt response from the authorities, including the Police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Army, Border Roads Organisation (BRO), CRPF, and other agencies conducted the rescue operation.
According to officials, the impacted two vehicles in which at least 10 tourists were travelling.
However, the action of the rescue teams led to the evacuation of all passengers, ensuring their safety. Later, machines were pressed into service for snow clearance and the road was restored for traffic movement.
SDPO Kangan, Muzaffar Jan told Greater Kashmir that all the tourists had been rescued and the road restored for traffic movement.
