Reasi attack: 2 terrorists’ involvement likely, says DIG UR Range

Jammu, June 10: Amid massive combing operation launched jointly by the security forces in Reasi, senior police officers Monday hinted at the involvement of at least two terrorists in attack on a bus, carrying pilgrims from Shiv Khori shrine to Katra, on June 9.

Officials said that the teams of National Investigation Agency (NIA), State Investigation Agency (SIA) this morning also joined the search operation, being monitored by senior officers.

NIA’s forensic team collected evidence from the site while a joint combing operation by police, CRPF and army, equipped with drones and other advanced paraphernalia, continued in the dense forest areas to trace terrorists, officials said.

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Jammu zone Anand Jain also visited the attack site.

Earlier, DIG Udhampur Reasi range, Rayees Mohammad Bhat, while speaking to the media, stated, “Searches have been launched, following the leads in the terror attack. Eleven teams are active. All the forces are operating jointly and a lot of people have been questioned to get a clue. As per eyewitnesses and our analysis, there could be two terrorists. We think that Lashkar is involved in this act. Searches and investigation are underway,”

Meanwhile, the identity of dead and the injured was also ascertained on Monday. According to officials, most of the victims belonged to Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi while driver and conductor were local.

DC Reasi Vishesh Mahajan, while speaking to the media, said, “At per latest reports, out of 42 injured, 18 were under treatment in GMC Jammu, 14 were in Narayana hospital, Katra while 10 were in Reasi District Hospital. Driver Vijay Kumar attained martyrdom. The government and local authorities are aware of the extreme sacrifice made by him. I have written to the higher ups in the government to provide all possible assistance to the family of the deceased and all possible support will be provided.”

Meanwhile, GMC Jammu Principal Dr Ashutosh Sharma said that all eighteen injured were stable. “All nine dead bodies have been packed, after completing medico-legal formalities, for their dispatch to their native places,” he said.

Among the dead also included two minors.
